Abortion A Very Pregnant - 844 Words

Abortion - a very pregnant topic, indeed. And yes, I just used some tasteful baby humour while delivering the opening statement into a personal essay about (as some would say) baby-killing. Now, I don’t mean to suck up all the fun like some type of vacuum (I will stop now), but abortion is a very grave issue for many women all over the world. I understand the trepidation behind passing legislation on the life of a potential human being, but therein lies the problem: in regards to when an embryo becomes a person and how that would apply to the morality of abortion, a fetus shouldn’t be considered a fully-fledged human being with a name and a purpose until it has popped out of an ungodly, stretched vagina or been brutally sawed out of a uterus via Caesarian. Many would argue the contrary, and they wouldn’t technically be wrong. Who am I to say when a fetus becomes a baby person? Now, here’s where I experience an excruciating level of cognitive dissonance. My personal opinion on the matter of terminating a pregnancy is that by the third trimester, a preemie baby could be born without many complications; this woman has had half a year to weigh her options and to consider the possible outcomes of carrying her pregnancy to term; this embryo-fetus-mound-of-multiplying-cells-thing has gestated long enough to have little tiny fingers and toes and eyes and a nose and a brain. I do NOT think, at this point, that abortion should still be an option, unless there were unforeseenShow MoreRelatedAbortion Essay1645 Words   |  7 PagesAbortion has been a debatable topic for a long time. The s Survival Of The Fittest Theory - 1875 Words

Due to Darwin’s survival of the fittest theory, a prejudiced distinctive form of Social Darwinism developed known as eugenics which is the study that all inferior social groups should be sterilized to prevent the increase in inferior population. Eugenics is the belief that people who are unfit continue to reproduce more unfit offsprings, creating a unfit population, therefore needs to be sterilized. Eugenicists believe that the masses of people who were deficient in intelligence are a real â€Å"danger to the human gene pool and should be institutionalized, serialized, or both† (Ruggiero 21). Panicked and alert by this eugenics study psychologist and eugenicist Henry Goddard wrote: â€Å"we need to hunt them down in every possible place and take care of them, and see to it that they do not propagate and make the problem worse, and that those who are alive today do not entail loss of life and property and moral contagion in the community by the things they do because they are weak-minded† (Ruggiero 21). In result of President Theodore Roosevelt promoted that America should have â€Å"good breeders as well as good fighters† he supported the â€Å"Rigid System of Selection† which was the sterilization of â€Å"an ever widening circle of social discards, beginning always with the criminal, the diseased and the insane and extending gradually to types which may be called weaklings rather than defectives and perhaps ultimately to worthless racial types† (Ruggiero 21). Leadership in Management

Question: Discuss about the Leadership in Management. Answer: Introduction Leadership can be defined as the process of influencing the social environment that aims at maximizing the efforts of other people towards achieving a set goal. On the other hand, leadership analysis can be defined as the act of breaking down the traits that are related to leadership into basic components that aim at assisting during a study and can be used by the practitioners. Leadership, therefore, has nothing to do with one's seniority in a different capacity or a given hierarchy. This means that the leadership analysis is a complex process that aims at exploring both negative and positive traits. In this article, I have therefore explored the process of leadership analysis and the theory that are related to leadership analysis. It has further expounded on the traits of leadership and the change of behaviors (Chen 2008). The application of leadership behavior has also been explicitly defined, and a detailed analysis was done to highlight the changes in the management of leadershi p analysis. Leadership Analysis Leadership analysis can well be defined as the act of breaking down the traits related to leadership into basic components that aim at assisting in a study by practitioners. Therefore, good leadership analysis should take into consideration the qualities of the leader in the context of all times and factors. The analysis is based on the positive impacts and negative impacts. The analysis of leadership, however, is done with considerations of the current environment. According to the theories that are set to explore on the leadership analysis, it is important to note that leadership analysis is seen in different ways (Daft 2014). Some of these theories are categorically slated to define the current impacts and some of the resultant impacts made in the current environment. In most of these theories, leadership analysis is deemed as a channel of exploring the relationship between the current social environment and the people involved. Traits of Leadership There are traits that are used for assessing leadership styles. Some of these traits involve the ability to distinguish the environment and the people associated with the environment. Leadership is seen as a set of behaviors that aims at evaluating the traits of successful leaders and identifying the broad leadership styles (Hayes 2014). The traits are seen as some of the core values in defining what leadership entails. These traits may categorize into two categories. There are moral traits and immoral traits. In leadership analysis, it is important to note that the moral traits are recommended as the better for establishing a suitable working environment. These traits are seen as successful traits that are evaluated by the leadership analysis theories. However, the immoral traits usually affect negatively on the working environment. Leadership Behaviors It is easy to understand leadership behaviors, but this may need some effort to perform what it entails consistently. A change in behavior will give one a way forward to increasing the effectiveness in performing the duties (Herman 2011). These behaviors can be learned however some seem to be inborn. Leadership may involve different practices such as: To inspire the vision Modeling the way Challenging the Status Quo Encouraging the heart Enabling others to work These practices may line up well with the leadership behaviors. Leadership behavior, therefore, needs determination in ensuring that directing, delegating, coaching and supporting other activities through different theories is effectively managed (Srivastav 2006). Change Management Analysis: Everyone needs changes and development in any organization or even in any working environment. Even in the modern world of today, people have no choice but to adapt to the ever-changing environment. Leadership plays a significant role in shaping and bringing changes to many organizations. There is a need for people or even organizations to cope up with the changing world. This will require greater personalities that may as well be termed as good leadership. Good leadership has seen many firms or even working environments grow rapidly. We need leaders with bigger minds such that they can keep up with the pace of the rapidly changing environments. Organizations have also benefited from leadership development since they require changes. These changes are only made available through better leadership. Changes in any working environment require new mindsets and not just new skills. These mindsets are made at our disposal through the good leadership (Walumbwa 2010). The strategies and plans that are introduced by the leaders play a significant role in defining the changes that are brought to any working environments. Leaders play a big role in opening the closed doors such that there is a positive competition that aims at bringing necessary changes in our working environments Applying the Leadership Theory: Leadership theory takes the challenge to which it is molded in various form. The leaders need to apply multiple practices to achieve their desired goal. This may involve the moral and ethical dilemma. The leader needs to ensure that his/her main state goal for applying leadership theory is to lead the followers and to ensure that he/she develops a sense of empowerment that aims at sharing a vision or his/her desired future. This application will, however, depend on the type of leadership that has been used. For instance, transformational leadership may require the leader to inspire her followers by her morals. This leadership aims at addressing the deeper intangible needs of the followers. Secondly, servant leadership provides a guide through a difficult time on who to follow. For such scenario, servant leader may face the wrath of accomplishing trust and even earning respect. There are many theories that explain how leadership theory can be applied especially during time of dilemma and hardship Conclusion: We have realized that it the ability of leaders to assess the situation in any given area and to have a full comprehension the respective followers. This article has provided a detailed analysis of what leadership is and what leadership analysis entails. It is for this matter that we have realized that there are different theories that explicitly directs the leaders to understand each scenario and on which theory he/she should adopt, to realize the maximum results (Wang, Waldman and Zhang 2014). We have also realized that leadership has nothing to do with personalities or where someone is and what hierarchy one is accorded. The traits further explain what is entailed in leadership analysis and some of the related changes that are brought about by leadership analysis. Though no accurate figures are available to measure the actual extent of the problem, drug addicts reporting to counseling in the country points out that the problem has spread among various age groups, and much among youths aged 16 to 25 years. The age group in which a youth is, signifies the transformation of an adolescent to a young person, which usually is accompanied with the trials and tribulations of a child in becoming a grown-up. A bundle of exuberant but undirected energy, he derives pleasure in taking risks and experimenting with new things. He craves to taste the forbidden fruits in his quest for attaining recognition and status amongst his peers. Such a behaviour often brings him in open or concealed conflict with his parents and parent figures which leads to the much discussed conflict of generations and generation gap. The situation has been further complicated due to the fast paced social transformation brought in the society by rapid industrialisation, urbanisation and rural-urban migration. The media explosion has shrunken the world, especially for the youth, and they are now more aware of things around. This has also raised their level of aspiration and ambition. With materialism, consumerism and individualism gaining ascendancy, modern youth is drifting away from his traditional roots and finds it difficult to cope with ever increasing social pressures. Further, the increasing economic pressures compel more and more parents to take full time employment leaving a child, more so a youth, alone in the house or in the company of friends. With no adequate programmes available to keep them busy, they become easy prey to anti-social activities including drug-abuse. There may be various reasons for a youth to take to drug abuse, from just curiosity and a tendency to experiment with. It may be an expression of his revolt against established authority, a way of gaining recognition in his group or he may just not be able to say NO, when offered. Therefore awareness creation or preventive education programme for youth is an imperative. In build up immunity amongst them, would promote self-respect and determination, provide experiences which encourage self-respect and sense of dignity, enhances personal and social skill which are necessary for functioning in a rapidly transforming society and provide for professional skills. What is more important is that the leisure time activities of both student and non-student youth are so organised that they provide for healthy recreation and constructive work habits. As is evident, a youth feels more at home within his age-group. Therefore, to reach them, it is but natural to take the help of more active groups among them. In Bangladesh, a strong emphasis has been placed on awareness building against drug-abuse among youth as they are considered to be the most precious asset for human resource development. Financial and technical assistance is provided by the government and NGOs to help them undertake activities such as socio cultural programmes. Experience has shown such programmes have a salutary impact, if backed by a good follow-up programme. It has also been realised that youth power can be harnessed not only from preventing youths from the malady of addiction but also by improving the environment they live in. One such example is the Rainy Day concert organised by Prothom Alo to observe the International Day against Drug Abuse and Trafficking. Some 15000 youths saying No to drugs vowed to launch a nationwide movement against drug. I take my hats off to Anusheh who had the gut to narrate her once drug addicted life. Anusheh, you can be a good ambassador to help the drug addicts return to their original track. Such activities/programmes help to identify addicts in their own peer groups. Dare devils as the youth are, they prove to be an asset in reaching rather inaccessible areas of the community, such as, pockets of addiction. Many a time, due to their connection with traffickers, pushers and pedlars, it becomes difficult to impress upon addicts to leave their habit. It is here that the youths, voluntary organisations have not only been able to create awareness but also have been able to muster support for combating trafficking, pushing and peddling drug. Australia And Apec Essays - International Trade, Free Essays Australia And Apec Economics assignment: APEC When the Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) was established in 1989 in response to the growing interdependence among Asia-Pacific economies, its goal was to advance Asia-Pacific economic dynamism and sense of community. When the cooperation was established, there were 12 founding member economies, namely Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Republic of the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and the United States. Since then there has been more countries/economies joining APEC. APEC has come a long way since 1989. It has built steadily on the efforts of the past and looks forward to further positive progress. In the Osaka meeting in 1994, APEC leaders adopted the Osaka Action Agenda, which firmly established three pillars of APEC activities: Trade and investment liberalization, business facilitation and economic-technical cooperation. Its main objective is to develop a region-wide, free trade and investment regime by the year 2000. APEC operates by consensus. In 1991, members committed themselves to conducting their activities and work programs on the basis of open dialogue with equal respect for the views of all participants. analysis of pulp fiction essays

analysis of pulp fiction essays The 1994 film Pulp Fiction may seem confusing and slow to some viewers. It is not until you fully understand the directors manipulations with time frames that you fully appreciate this film. This film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino is packed with action scenes as well as extensive dialogues between characters that illustrate the life of a small mob in Los Angeles California. Even though this movie may seem violent and cold there is certain humor created by the characters perspective of the crimes they commit. Like most of Quentin Tarantinos movies, Pulp Fiction has a circular path. The movie starts when an English couple decides to rob a coffee shop after going through an extensive discussion on why they should rob coffee shops and not liquor stores or gas stations. As the action is about to happen, the credits are shown on the screen. The movie then continues beginning with another chapter in the story. Julian, played by Samuel L. Jackson, and Vincent, played by John Travolta, are in a dialogue about Vincents trip to Amsterdam. They talk about the legalization of Marijuana. Later on they start talking about Vincent having to take care of his mob bosss wife for one night. This seemed like a delicate situation for Vincent since his boss, Marcellus Wallace played by Ving Rhames, was said to be very strict when it came to other men getting too close tohis wife. All of these facts from the movie we get just from the characters dialogue. One might think that so much dialogue could make a movie boring. The beauty of this idea by Tarantino is that we are forced to pay attention to the dialogues since they foreshadow upcoming events in the movie. All this conversation is happening while Vincent and Jules are on their way to take care of Mr. Wallaces business. They had been sent to get a suitcase that had been stolen by a group of young men. Again when the two enter the peoples ...

Service Issue Shangri La Hotel Berhad is a limited company that operates throughout Malaysia. Although Shangri-La Hotels (M) Berhad is doing good in the service industry, there have some issues that need to be improved and overcome. One of the issue faced by Shangri La Hotel Berhad is the insufficient manpower to conduct the daily operations. This is because Malaysia is facing lack of workers and is importing workers from other foreign countries. The link between manpower and Shangri La Hotel Berhad is fairly simple as manpower is proportional to productivity. The more people are available to work, the faster projects can be completed or the more projects a company can take on. Conversely, a lack of adequate manpower prevents businesses from completing tasks. The lack of productivity translates into a reduction in revenue and profit, which in some cases means the business cant stay operational. Hence if Shangri La do not handle this issue adequately, the efficient and effectiveness of the company will be affected. The second issue faced by Shangri La is the standards of the hotel staff not on par. With the increasing challenges the hotel sector is facing globally and the escalating demand for tourism products and services, especially in the emerging markets, there is urgent need for players in the region to offer high quality performance standards to survive. As stated, because of insufficient workers, Shangri La has to hire foreign workers in order to balance up the workforce. Foreigners on the other hand are usually hired from third world countries because of their low cost. This in return has taken toll on the overall performance of the company. Therefore, Shangri La should also look into this matter. The third issue is about the maintenance handled by Shangri La. As noted Shangri La Hotel Berhad is engaged in the operation of hotels and beach resorts, a golf course and clubhouse, property management and investment and commercial laundry. In the field of golf courses and clubhouse, maintenance is the upmost important. Shangri La on the other hand is doing just average based on the reviews. Because Shangri La Hotel Berhad is a five star company, they should be able to improve their maintenance and achieve excellence. As stated, maintenance is important in the hospitality trade as it reflects the service provided by Shangri La to their customers. Besides that, Shangri La also engages in beach resorts, having one in Batu Ferringhi and one at Sabah which is the more popular ones. Based on the reviews of the hotels, Shangri La Hotel Berhad has received complaints on the lack of entertainment provided on the beachfront which is also one of the issue faced by Shangri La. The beach itself is already amazing to enjoy. However, being viewed for their excellence, Shangri La Hotel Berhad should enhance a solution to that matter. Several reviews stated that there is nothing for the people to do at the beach but loafing around making the stay boring and unworthy. All these issues should be addressed by Shangri La Hotels Berhad as to maintain their international standards. If these service issues are solved, there is no doubt that Shangri La Hotels Berhad will achieve excellence in their line of trade. Latest Venture / Business Plan Although Shangri-La hotels (M) Berhad already owns 66 hotels all over the world and has long term customers, Shangri-La hotels (M) Berhad want to keep expand and differentiate its business in order to provide more service to the public. They try to satisfy customers of their specific services provided which cant be found among competitors. Decision 2000 :: Internet Communication Papers

Decision 2000 A community is constructed for people to interact with each other in a particular area. We usually refer to a community as the people who live in or surround our own neighborhoods. The idea of a community is for people to interact with one another about concerns, beliefs, and interests. Therefore a community does not have to be restricted to only neighborhoods, but can be available on the Internet as places for forum discussions, informative discussions, and chat rooms to interact about concerns, beliefs, and interests. Since a community is not restricted to a neighborhood, it can include any particular area of interest such as entertainment, education, professions, hobbies, and people. To explore a community on the Internet, people usually know where they want to go because they have a particular interest. Many people go to chat rooms where people interact as friends, love-relationships, or even sexual relations. When people go to chat rooms for sex, they refer it to as cyber sex. Chat rooms are somewhat impersonal because people usually never get to see the person at the other end of the computer, and people feel free to express themselves in any way they want. Some people are known to lie because they might want to live out some kind of fantasy and figure that they might not ever meet the person that they are interacting with. There have been situations where people have developed personal and sometimes emotional relationships where people have met each other. At times people confess their lies when they know they might meet the other person, or people find out about lies when they actually meet the person. Sometimes people exchange pictures and phone numbers whe n they meet a person in a chat room that they actually liked throughout their interaction. I had never chatted myself in a chat room until a couple months ago at the age of twenty-three. I have had little experience in chat rooms because I only interacted with different people for about three weeks and I stopped because I enjoyed it too much, but felt that it was taking up a lot of my time. The whole concept of chat rooms can become addicting. My experience in chat rooms have been in rooms labeled Friends, Twenties Friends, Latino Friends, and Lounging. Most of the people I interacted with were interested in finding out things about people that they had in common with such as hobbies and likes and dislikes.

Of Mice and Men Character Analysis Essay

Show how Steinbeck shows two characters making difficult decisions in Of mice and Men A decision can either have a good or bad outcome. In ‘Of Mice and Men’ characters are made to take difficult decisions which could change their lives. In this essay, I will be analyzing ways in which Steinbeck portrays (shows) difficult decisions made by characters, in the novel. George makes some tough decisions which all lead him to his misery. When George and Lennie are sitting near the fire, George says to Lennie, â€Å"‘if I was alone I could live so easy’ ‘no mess at all’, ‘An’ whatta I got†¦I got you!’ † George’s life is not easy because he has to deal with Lennie, who gets into trouble-most of the time. Choosing to take care of Lennie, instead of abandoning him is a tough choice; this is what leads George to this painful outcome. When talking to Carlson after killing Lennie, â€Å"George’s voice was almost a whisper. He looked at his hand that held the gun.† George is now lonely sand he feels guilty for taking Lennie’s life away. George chose to kill Lennie because if he didn’t, Lennie would be killed painfully by Curley, and George does not want Lennie to suffer. Candy is forced to make difficult choices which all result in him facing terrible outcomes. After the death of his dog, Candy says â€Å"‘I ought to of shot that dog myself, George. I shouldn’t ought to of let no stranger shoot my dog.’† Candy now has a feeling of regret and he misses his dog. Candy lets Carlson shoot his dog because he feels he has no other choice but to let him because he thinks they would kick him off the ranch. After finding Curley’s wife dead, knowing it was Lennie, Candy â€Å"spoke his greatest fear. ‘You an’ me can get that little place can’t we, George?’ ‘Candy dropped his head and looked down at the hay. He knew.’ † Candy’s dreams are now flattened as he knows that they will no longer continue to try to get the little ranch. He had so much hope when he decided to join George and Lennie on their dream, but now he has to stay on the ranch because he has no other options. Candy just wanted to get off the ranch and keep his dog, but could not do either because of the choices he was forced to make. These characters made hard decisions which they thought would make their lives better but instead they changed their lives for the worse. They all just wanted a happy life but they all lost the chance to get this happiness at the end of the novel. Whether their choices were forced or freely made,  they did not make the right decisions to reach their dreams.

Summer Love Essay Example

Summer Love Essay Example Summer Love Essay Summer Love Essay It didn’t begin as a romance, really. It wasn’t a friendship, either. I don’t really know what to call it, but I do remember the first time I ever saw her. I was young; maybe eleven or twelve. It was so odd that she struck me so much, at first glance. Eleven or twelve is not exactly the age that boys begin admiring girls.   I know I wasn’t looking for a girlfriend. I was outside playing with my buddies, Ricky and Josh. We were building a fort out of some cardboard boxes that dad had found from work. It was what we always did after school. It was while we were putting the last box in its place that I heard this laughter coming from the sidewalk. It was unlike anything I had ever heard before. It was kind of musical, but also a little taunting. â€Å"Is that what you do around here for fun?† asked this lanky, blonde hair, blue eyed girl. Very rarely can you remember what someone says word-for-word, but I will always remember the words of this mysterious girl. All three of us boys gawked at her. She was not like the other girls that we teased at school. They were cute usually wore pigtails or braids that we tugged on to get their attention, but this girl; she was not cute at all. Not really cute. She was pretty. She had rosy cheeks instead of the freckled ones that we usually saw. She was wearing make-up and had one clothes t hat looked too old for her age. She told us that her name was Annie. She did not tell me her last name. She told us that she was from New York City and was only in our small town for the summer, staying with her aunt and uncle. I don’t remember what I said back to her that first time she spoke to us. I wanted it to be something clever, something sarcastic, but it was something terribly dull. As dull, apparently, as she thought our town was. The next day, I told Ricky and Josh that I did not feel like playing â€Å"fort† anymore. I told them that it was for kids. I wasn’t a kid anymore. Instead, I waited upstairs in my room and looked out of the window that overlooked our front yard. From our front yard, I could see Annie’s aunt and uncle’s house. She was walking outside, so I ran down the stairs to go outside, stopping at a mirror near the door to make sure my hair was smoothed down and that my collar was straight. I usually let my hair fly however it wanted to, but not in front of Annie. I went outside and leaned against the house, trying to look like I imagined the boys looked in New York City; uncaring and cool. She walked by and stopped. She stared at me, but I was not going to give her the satisfaction of being the first to say something. Especially since I had no clue what I should say. I had not thought that far ahead. â€Å"So where are Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb?† she asked. She was talking about Josh and Ricky. I shrugged, and kicked the ground, or something as equally cool and uncaring as that. â€Å"So, where can I girl get a soda in this dump?† She asked, hands on her hips. I was in love. She was a little rude, loud, and annoying, but she was the best thing I had ever seen. It was the beginning of a summer romance. At least, to me it was a romance. I am still not sure why Annie decided to hang around me when there were plenty of local beefy jocks that would have loved to have spent summer with her. I never asked her. I was just glad that for some reason, I was chosen. That was one of the best summers of my life. Ricky and Josh were not really happy, because I rarely had time to be around them, anymore. Annie and her crazy ideas kept me busy. For a girl who complained so much about my hometown, she certainly found plenty to do in it. We went horseback riding- something she had only read about, shopping at our small mall (her idea, not mine), went skinny dipping in a lake (my idea, not hers), and had many mini-adventures. I think that even though she was used to the big city, she had as much of an amazing summer as I did. She was so modern and cool – unlike any girl I had ever met before.   Instead of reading Seventeen, or some other silly magazine that girls read, she enjoyed reading the New York Times, particularly the movie reviews. She loved movies and could quote them like some people quote poetry. â€Å"’Why do you want to fight?’† she would ask me. I knew my cue was â€Å"’Because I can’t sing or dance.’† Rocky was among her favorite movies. â€Å"’I think we make a great couple of coconuts. I am dumb, you are shy, what do you think?’† was another one that I said to make her laugh. Weird for a girl to like Rocky 1 instead of Pretty in Pink, but I wasn’t complaining. The only thing bad about our summer was that even though every day with Annie was fun, I knew that eventually the summer would end and she would have to go back to New York City. That day came and she did not even say goodbye. I went to her aunt and uncle’s house and they told me that they had taken her to the airport early that morning.   I never saw Annie again. Her aunt and uncle moved shortly after that summer. It was one of the best summers of my life, but it happened so fast and ended so fast that sometimes I wonder if it was just a dream. If it was a dream, or if I had been in heaven, then Annie had been an angel. Either way, I will never forget that summer, or Annie from New York City.
